Fishing was good last week with anglers working the flat out from the resort and partway up the Cultus Channel. Balanced leeches and Seal Buggers on an indicator or hover/intermediate line were the top producers.

River is very low and dropping with cool mornings offering the best fishing; October Caddis hatch is imminent in the evenings. Dry flies are the primary tactic with nymphs and streamers as secondary options.

Trout fishing has been very good recently with small streamers and nymphs. The tribal side closes November 1st, but the BLM side remains open for trout through December 31st.

Flows are at 38 cfs, slightly lower than ideal but very fishable, set to bump to 50 cfs for winter flows on November 1st. Decent afternoon BWO and midge hatches; whitefish spawn is dropping eggs that trout are keying on.

Browns are active in the shallows; shoreline wade fishing is the best bet with pontoon or drift boat also viable. Balanced leeches under an indicator in 4-10 feet and streamer patterns are working well.

Fall River is one of the best fishing options right now with strong BWO hatches, midges, and an autumn amber caddis hatch. Nymphing with euro jigs, eggs, and balanced leeches has been highly effective.

Fishing was pretty good over the past week with the season winding down. Float trips and walk-and-wade opportunities available near boat ramps and the old Deerhorn Golf Course area.

The Metolius is a top choice this week for bull trout on streamers, nymphing, and afternoon hatches. Kokanee spawn is winding down and eggs are drifting, triggering good feeding activity below spawning beds.

Good fishing this week; streamers and balanced minnows produced well, and a Callibaetis nymph under an indicator hammered fish in the last hour of the day. Fish also keying on water boatman on the surface.

The Klamath is running at 2,680 CFS with clear water and 57.2°F — slightly elevated but fishable for swung flies and nymphs. Rain is incoming and expected to raise and color flows, so fishing hard early is advised.

Fall River is fishing excellently in late October with consistent spring-fed flows and recent stocking keeping trout active around deeper slots, weed edges, and submerged structure. Both dry-fly and subsurface fishing are productive with a wide variety of patterns working.

Fishing for Redband-Rainbow Trout in the Klamath River is good for fly and lure fishermen. This is the last chance before October 31 closures to catch and release large Redband Trout moving in from Upper Klamath Lake.

Following trophy trout stockings, Fall River has been fishing exceptionally well.

Summer steelhead are still available on the Wilson River, mostly in the upper reaches. Dropping water temperatures and fall rains can make these fish more active and willing to bite.

Fall salmon fishing is fair in the Nestucca bay and tidewater, with Chinook and coho still being produced. Summer steelhead are available mostly in the upper reaches, with dropping water temps and fall rains making them more active.

Exceptionally low flows at 38 CFS are concentrating fish in deeper runs and remaining riffle water, making light presentations and subsurface approaches the most consistent strategy. Flows are expected to rise to 50 CFS around November 1, which should improve habitat conditions.

Good fall trout fishing through riffles, broken current, and softer edges, with nymphing and swinging streamers/trout spey patterns both productive. Dry-fly fishing is more localized around eddies and softer edges; egg patterns are increasingly relevant due to Chinook spawning activity.

East Lake is heating up for fall with kokanee beginning to move toward spawning mode, drawing browns and rainbows into the shallows. The leech and streamer bite is the primary focus; dry fly action has largely ended for the season.

The Middle Deschutes has been fishing well above average for the past two weeks, with browns becoming increasingly aggressive and outnumbering rainbows for many anglers. Nymphing, small streamers, and dry flies on caddis, midges, PMDs, and BWOs have all been productive, with egg patterns growing in importance as browns near spawn.

Fall River is fishing exceptionally well following two stocking events of 2-3lb fish early in October. Dry fly and nymph action both productive; fish are targeting small bugs including midge emergers, BWOs, tricos, and spinners, with PMDs and caddis also present.

Walleye fishing has been good along the Willamette River from Peoria downstream to Independence, with good-sized fish being caught in 12-18 feet of water.

The North Umpqua is currently closed to fishing. The mainstem Umpqua is open but largely devoid of fish, with only the occasional sluggish fish remaining before winter.

Walleye fishing has been good along the Willamette from Peoria downstream to Independence. Trolling a worm spinner in 12-18 feet of water slightly faster than the current has been producing good-sized walleye.

The mainstem Umpqua is open but fishing is essentially dead, with fish having burrowed into the mud for winter. The reporter fished with a barbless hook primarily to enjoy coffee without the interruption of catching fish.

Fishing is excellent, especially on cloudy days for BWO dry fly and streamer anglers. Water is low and clear, allowing wade anglers to spot and stalk rising fish throughout the canyon.
