Fly And Field
Fall conditions are setting up nicely with cooler September weather and good flows. Subsurface fishing is most consistent, with dry fly opportunities improving as BWOs and smaller mayflies become more active.
Confluence Fly Shop
The Lower Deschutes has been fishing very well heading into fall, with fat, healthy fish responding to nymph rigs (stonefly above, caddis or perdigon below) throughout the day and evening caddis dry fly action at dusk. Trout spey has also been productive with sculpin and leech-style patterns.
Deschutes Camp
Flows are rising on the Lower Deschutes as irrigation season tapers, but trout fishing has improved drastically with cooler weather. Dry fly fishing with small gray and slate sedges is productive with early-fall caddis activity, though technical due to small fly sizes and educated fish.
Fly Fishers Place
The Lower Deschutes is producing good trout action despite the closed steelhead season, with nymphs and small streamers being most effective. Caddis hatches are expected to pick up again with warmer weather returning next week.

The Lower Deschutes between Warm Springs and Trout Creek is fishing well, with fish eating stonefly and caddis nymphs during the day and rising to caddis dry flies in the evening. Hot-beaded flies (especially orange and pink) are becoming increasingly productive heading into fall.
Fly And Field
Steelhead closure has shifted focus to trout fishing for redsides and rainbows. Subsurface nymphing is the most consistent approach, with evening dry fly opportunities around riffle edges and softer current.
Fly Fishers Place
Steelhead season remains closed pending ODFW reopening, but trout fishing on the Warm Springs to Trout Creek stretch is very good with solid nymphing throughout the day and nice dry fly fishing in the evening. Caddis and BWO activity expected with incoming cloud cover.
Odfw Central Zone
Trout fishing open and good with stonefly nymphs and some dry fly action in the evenings. River is closed to steelhead angling; salmon retention closed except at Sherars Falls area where first coho of the season were caught last week.
Fly And Field
Redsides are active through the Warm Springs to Maupin stretch, with fish holding in riffles, broken current, and bank seams. Evening caddis hatches are bringing fish to the surface, while subsurface patterns remain productive through faster water.
Deschutes Camp
Fish are being found in deeper runs on hot and sunny days, with dry fly opportunities early morning and evening. Swinging flies has also been productive, and pressure has been low.
