The Lower Deschutes remains closed due to fire.

The Warm Springs to Trout Creek section was closed due to a nearby fire, making guiding impossible for the foreseeable future. The closure is fire-related rather than fishing conditions.

The Lower Deschutes from Warm Springs to the Locked Gate south of Maupin is closed to visitors due to the Ten Mile fire near Trout Creek. Closure is in effect through at least July 26th and potentially longer.

Salmon fly and stonefly hatches are slowing down, though warm weather may yield some additional hatches. Nymph fishing remains very productive in addition to dry fly opportunities.

Good catches during the day mostly on nymphs; evenings offer the best opportunity for dry fly and emerger fishing on the surface. Trout spey with leeches and sculpins on sink tips is producing in deeper runs, with soft hackles effective in the evening.

The Lower Deschutes is fishing well with best action from dawn to 1 PM and again from 6-7 PM to dark, with the final 60-90 minutes of the day producing the best hatches of pale evening duns and tan caddis. Mid-day can be a grind in the summer heat.

PMD, caddis, and stonefly nymphs cover the majority of effective patterns, with perdigons and caddis dries rounding out the arsenal. The caddis hatch kicks off around 3pm and really gets going by 5pm through last light.
