July highlight is golden stonefly adults from headwaters to Gorge Campground, with PMDs and tan caddis spread across all sections. Bull trout are moving upriver from the lake ahead of spawning; use a 7-8 weight for quick releases.

Cold, spring-fed flows are keeping trout active despite rising daytime temperatures, with consistent dry fly opportunities and strong subsurface action throughout the day. Bull trout are also active around deeper pools and structure for anglers willing to cover water with larger streamers.

The Metolius is fishing well across all sections with Golden Stones increasing on the upper river and good PMD, BWO, caddis and spinner activity throughout. Bull trout numbers are high and early morning streamer fishing through good pools is productive.

Fishing has been very good on the Metolius with Green Drake stragglers still hatching and excellent PMD and BWO hatches coming on. Bull trout are present in good numbers and responding well to streamers.

The Metolius is fishing well with consistently cold, clear water and a variety of active hatches. Nymphing is the most productive approach outside of hatch windows, with dry fly opportunities during afternoon and evening hatches.
