Crane Prairie Reservoir

Water temperatures are rendering Crane Prairie essentially unfishable. Anglers are advised to wait until the weather cools down before heading out.

Anglers report abundant trout in the 12-16 inch range and kokanee averaging 13-14 inches. With warming surface water temperatures, trout can be found in cooler relic river channels in the Cultus and Quin River arms.

Crane Prairie is in its peak summer pattern with consistent action for anglers working weed edges, submerged channels, and flooded timber. Afternoon dry fly opportunities are developing as Callibaetis hatch, and damselfly nymphs are increasingly active around weed beds.

Crane Prairie has been removed from the guide's fishing list due to very warm surface temperatures. While cooler water exists in the channels below, fish must be fought through warm water during the catch and during release, raising serious fish welfare concerns.

Crane Prairie continues to reward anglers targeting larger trout along channels, weed edges, and submerged structure. Fishing is best around emerging insect activity, particularly where weed beds meet deeper channels.

The algae bloom has mostly cleared with some particulates remaining, a negligible factor for fishing. Fishing has been just OK overall, with damsels becoming increasingly important, along with leeches, chironomids, and scuds.

Fishing has been reasonable with varying success; water color has returned to normal but particulates remain. Damsels and leeches are the top producers, fished in tandem with the damsel on a tag above the leech, with olive being the color of the week.

Lakes on the Cascade Lakes Highway, including Crane Prairie, are settling into a strong summer pattern with fish active and insect activity building. Balanced leeches, chironomids, and damsel nymphs are all producing, with larger fish found along weed lines and shoals.

Crane Prairie is 88% full with excellent early season trout and kokanee fishing. Trout are abundant in the 12-16 inch range and kokanee average 13-14 inches, with fish spread throughout the lake at moderate water temperatures.
