Shad are in the Umpqua in great numbers, with large schools visible hugging the bottom in even-flowing tailouts. Smallmouth bass are also present throughout the river between shad spots.

The North Umpqua has had a strong wild steelhead return of approximately 11,000 fish and the river remains open. A road trip is highly recommended.
