Shad are in the Umpqua in great numbers, with large schools visible hugging the bottom in even-flowing tailouts. Smallmouth bass are also present throughout the river between shad spots.
Caddis Fly
The North Umpqua has been steady all season with natural lulls and upticks due to strong wild returns. Productivity is expected to increase through the season's end into March and early April.

Very low water with summer sludge still on the rocks. Anglers are turning up zeros for steelhead, with only a couple of incidental smallmouth bass swung up.
