First brood of callibaetis is nearing its end with the second, smaller brood expected in early August; heavy mayfly hatches are not currently occurring. Terrestrials, damsels, and chironomids are all important right now, with balanced leeches under an indicator also producing well.

East Lake is producing steady action with healthy rainbow trout, trophy-class brown trout, and some of the best kokanee fishing around. Callibaetis afternoon hatches, chironomids throughout the day, and active damselfly nymphs are all contributing to consistent opportunities.

East Lake was good to very good this week with strong callibaetis dry fly fishing between 11 AM and 1:30 PM, beetles and ants productive before and after the hatch, and consistent nymphing action. Rated the best or tied for best lake in the area.

East Lake is producing some of the most consistent trout and kokanee fishing in Central Oregon. Terrestrials including ants and beetles are beginning to contribute alongside Callibaetis and chironomid activity.
