East Lake has cooled down and callibaetis are hatching in great numbers. Subsurface fishing with scuds, chironomids, midges, and leeches under an indicator remains productive.
Fly And Field
Cooler fall conditions are opening up more of the day at East Lake, allowing fish to move between deeper water and shallows. Callibaetis second brood continues through September alongside ants, beetles, and hoppers.
Fly Fishers Place
East Lake resort docks are staying in until the 18th for boat launches. Callibaetis hatches near the East Lake campground and White Slide are good around midday, and more large hatches are expected with warm sunny days returning.

Conditions are improving as water temperatures drop with late-summer cooling, allowing fish to move into shallower water. Callibaetis hatches are active at midday, and terrestrials along the shoreline remain productive.
Odfw Central Zone
Excellent brown and rainbow trout fishing continues with large numbers of rainbow trout in the 16-18 inch range and trophy brown trout over 24 inches. Low water levels making launching larger boats challenging; kokanee running 13-15 inches.
Fly Fishers Place
Callibaetis hatches are good around noon near the White Slide and Obsidian Flow, with ants and beetles working well for surface action the rest of the day. Water is very low and weedy, making launching larger boats difficult.

East Lake is offering better opportunities as cooler late-August weather arrives, with the second brood of Callibaetis bringing good surface action during cooler parts of the day. Beetles and other terrestrials are also producing, and subsurface fishing with chironomids, Callibaetis nymphs, balanced leeches, and attractor nymphs remains the most consistent approach.
Fly Fishers Place
East Lake has a strong callibaetis hatch around lunch with good morning action on beetles, ants, and hoppers. Water temps are reaching 67°F or higher by early afternoon, limiting fishing to mornings. Water levels are dropping rapidly.
Confluence Fly Shop
Water temps reaching 70 degrees in the shallows make fishing inadvisable until temps cool down. The 2nd brood of callibaetis is beginning to pop off.

East Lake is offering good late-summer trout opportunities with a recent Longhorn Caddis emergence and chironomids producing well in deeper water. Beetles have been effective when temperatures allow shallow fishing, while the expected second Callibaetis hatch has been slower to develop.
