Avid Angler
South Puget Sound is producing good Sea Run Cutthroat fishing with lots of bait around, particularly sand lance and small herring. Fast retrieves are key with grabs occurring right at the rod tip.
Bellingham Confluence
Coho returns in Marine Areas 8 and 9 have been impressive, with salmon running larger than average. Beach fishing with Clousers and stinger-style flies is producing well, including both wild and hatchery fish.

Resident coho in the 3–5 lb class have been present in northern Marine Areas 9 and 10, with fish also moving through the San Juans. Beach fishing at west side Whidbey locations is expected to improve steadily as more ocean coho push in through the Strait of Juan de Fuca.
Emerald Water Anglers
Puget Sound is fishing pretty well but kelp is a major factor; outgoing tides are much more favorable and will be so for the next few months. Low light conditions early in the morning and a slight midday breeze help.

Coastal cutthroat are present on the east side of Whidbey Island and around Camano Island; seaweed and eel grass can be an issue so outgoing tides are preferred. The coho forecast for Puget Sound looks solid, with beach salmon season anticipated later this summer off the west side of Whidbey.

May and June are among the best months for sea-run cutthroat and bull trout along the North Sound beaches, with fry patterns and baitfish imitations producing well. Lingcod season is also open through June 15th with aggressive fish available to those who can get flies down to 20-50 feet.
Emerald Water Anglers
An epic season so far on Puget Sound for both sea run cutthroat and resident silver salmon. Chum fry-style patterns in a slightly longer profile have been effective, and anglers are encouraged to fish what they enjoy most.
Bellingham Confluence
Saltwater beaches are showing signs of life with sea-run bull trout making a sound appearance in Skagit Bay; cutthroat have been scarce so far. Fry out-migration is expected to be limited following the December 2025 flood.
Emerald Water Anglers
Resident Coho are actively feeding on Chum and Coho fry and will follow baitfish north as they move out of the Sound. Fishing closer to home is encouraged.
